Yet Another 'Best Of' List

Sure, we might live in a paradise, but my five most heavenly moments of this year have been the sort you can have almost anywhere in the world:

1. A sunset walk with the kiddo to say 'goodnight' to the birds. We go to Kawainui Regional Park, and say an evening aloha to a neighborhood night heron, who is always in the same spot by the entrance to the marsh walkway.

2. Puddle stomping in a warm rain. Our best puddle stomping of the year so far (and there have been lots of rainy days to practice!) has been around the sidewalks near our home- and also in the tide pools near the Lanikai Marker, down at the end of Kailua Beach. There is a rock down that way that my Little One simply calls 'Opihi Rock.' (For those off-island, an opihi is a limpet.) Somehow a light rain just adds to the loveliness of the green hill by the sea.

3. Sunset dinners with friends - and yes, I have to put in a good word for Foodland poke and a Lavaman Red Ale.

4. Dessert with family. It makes all of us happy, especially me. As far as desserts go, I haven't found any better than the fruit crumble at Kalapawai Cafe - but I'm always open to new recommendations.

5. Falling asleep in a comfy chair with my keiki. Sure, our comfiest chair is a papasan that is prone to tip over, but that just adds to the fun of waking up, right?

Happy Lei Day - and Spring, y'all.
